I agree with Roy on the weak battery scenario, as I've had a few solenoids "stick" when trying to get a seldom used vehicle running again. I have also had solenoid/starters "freeze" in the run position due to climate. Since you didn't say Where you are, if it is somewhere cold (like up here in the Great White North, EH?), frosen up grease and/or moisture could also be a cause. Good Luck J.V.L.
