The 3 pt. hitch, belt pulley, draw bar assembly, pintle hook, front winch, front boom assembly and the rear splined
PTO were all separate options. Although we've all
seen the 3pt in the movie no one has to my knowledge yet unearthed one. About 15 years ago Fred Coldwell started a search in the
PW advertiser. Fred started a register for the ser.#s on the belt
pulleys. I think about a dozen surfaced. He was trying to get a # series going to
try to figure total production #s. Often you would find a PW w/rear PTO and no belt pully. Many implements latter on were pto driven as the flat belts became obsolete. So how many belt pulleys were
pulled off the PTO spline and tossed under the bench to become forever separated from the truck. The same fate probably became of the draw bar because it hung down in an un becomming PW way to get the proper draft angle.
I got lucky about 10 years ago and found all 3 on one truck. I bought the truck just to get the equipment and sold the donor. There's one more little
ditty that you would want. There's a cast iron cap that bolts over the pto when the belt pulley is off to protect the splined shaft and keep it clean. The implements that were driven weren't options. You just got them at the
Implement dealer. Being that I had the draw bar I just had to try it out. I've got a 3 bottom 14" ground driven plow. With the 230 in 2nd low range it plowed faster than you could walk. Back to the cast iron cap. I have a name and address of a guy that cast and machined them out east.
I haven't seen any mention of it in ten years. They were $100. then. So in summing it all up the 3 pt. seems to be the Holy Grail of the PW world. The movie is the only evidence. Were they never produced and sold or just too few to ever surface? If you have a Belt Pulley the ser# is on the edge of the big flange. Please e-mail it to Fred at
powwag@aol.com If you have a rear PTO try and back track. Your belt pulley might be out there waiting. Good Luck Lyle
