If your flat head is in good shape KEEP IT! There is a good article in 4X4 power mag Jan 98 issue of installing pre 85 GM rear end and front end of the 3/4 ton 4.11 gear ratio flavor. EASY Mod and little change to the drivelines. Flathead works easier with the shorter gears, you got disks in the front, no more split rims and all for alittle extra change than new 4.89 gears. Oh, you'll run between 55 and 60 mph.
