The 318 is no easier, but a whole lot more palatable to us die hard mopar fans... The flathead makes plenty of power, what the truck really lacks is top end. (if you need more power you can always put it into low range). To do a v-8 conversion it is usually (and a whole lot easier) to swap to the trans. that comes on the v-8. With the divorced transfer case this is not so bad, you just have to make your own motor mounts, exhaust, and a hundred other linkages... Like most swaps it's not for the faint of heart or technically/mechanically/fiscally challenged. I do like these rigs stock also and think you will find most sentiment here leans that way.
