Austin,
I'm truly sorry to hear of your disappointment, but you have to accept these things as part of owning a severe-service type of vehicle. I've seen so-called "napa" type seals fail as well. Neoprene also deteriorates, and some of the seals I've installed were no good right from the box. Leather, being a natural product, is certainly subject to rot and decay, especially if it was packed by a tired plant worker on the midnight shift under war conditions when you were a baby. The point is, leather seals or neoprene, there will NEVER be a time when your truck stops sucking up the money. No part of the truck will ever truly be "Done"...you just move on the best you can, and go back when necessary. Feel proud of your diagnostic skills in finding the problem before the hubs were disassembled by a tree after the brakes failed. Next time, suspect it sooner and mitigate the damages. It's all a learning process, and a very expensive one at that. Mean time between failures on a military truck can be a negative number. Then there's always Saturns and Tauruses...all shiny plastic and wonderful man-made materials. Trouble is, you won't find one of them worming up a slick rock trail or mucking through a bog. With all their technology, modern cars & trucks have never matched the 40's and 50's performance of a rusty half-century old army truck! Just enjoy and chill!
