Mark,

I agree with you. A few of us PW guys were discussing the poorly written captions in the book recently. None of us were aware of the change sheet that you mentioned. There are so many mistakes that we found that it is now difficult for us to consider any of Mr. Bunn's work as a reliable reference .

We were amazed that Dodge could totally redesign a truck and produce it in the same year (1950). Then, after they had the tooling, take 4 years to produce a variation of that truck (M37B1) after it was requested.

We even wondered what age level the target audience for the book was after reading the captions on page 21. "The truck on the left does not have a front-mounted winch; the truck on the right does have a winch."

The pictures from the John Zentmyer collection are great. My favorite picture of the entire book is the factory photo of the 1956 PW on pg 60.

The picture that gripes me the worst is the "restored to original condition" picture on pg. 58. How come our headlights dont mount like that mommy? Well son when your dad was adding the extra tow hooks to the under side of the non winch bumper on the extended winch frame, the glare from the larger than original mirror caused him to slip on the non skid runningboard surface and hit his head on the non-fifties Selectro hubs. Ever since that day the word original has no meaning. All he wants to do is stare into that round scope thing mounted on top of the dash and mumble something about the bat wings mounted on the rear of the box.

I think someone owes me a $30 apology.

Buy the book through the PW Forum, look at the pictures - don't believe the captions!
