Mine was minimal. I went from 6V, pos ground to 12V,
neg ground simply by changing to a 12V reg (3-coil
mechanical) and a 12V coil. The generator and
starter seem happy with the new arrangement. When
changing ground polarity on a generator system,
you need to polarize the generator before starting
the engine. Just momentarily hook a jumper wire
the + battery terminal and the generator field
terminal.
If you're going from 24V down to 12V, you'll probably
need a 12V starter.
