No child's parents would consider sueing any other parents just because their child happened to break an arm or collar bone sledding down the other parent's hill, roller skating on their driveway, or falling out of their tree, or got bit because they teased the other child's dog. Also, it was considered the duty of a teacher to swat an unruly child across the back of the hand with a wooden ruler or across the butt with the famous paddle, known by various "names", if he or she deserved it.
I did all of these things, got swats and detentions, and deserved every minute of it. And, I did not grow up to be "traumatized" and suffer life long problems that I could use as a crutch and excuse to go out and cause all kinds of trouble as an addult.
