They are on one side of each sprocket. On one sprocket, the dot is on the "face" of the sprocket, between two teeth. On the other sprocket, the dot is on the "face" of the sprocket, but directly inline with one of the teeth, rather than between two teeth. When I talk about the "face" of each sprocket, I mean the surface you are looking directly at when standing in front of the engine, with the sprockets installed on the engine.

Come to think of it, one of my sprockets had a "dot" like a mark made with a blunt punch, about 1/16" in diameter, but the other sprocket had a 0, as if it had been punched with a letter punch in the shape of a zero.

The two "dots" should line up as follows:

With both of the sprockets installed, you will need to imagine a straight line drawn between the center of rotation of the crankshaft and the center of rotation of the camshaft. Now rotate the crankshaft and the camshaft until the two "dots" fall on that line, between the two shafts, not outside of them.

I hope my description was not too confusing.

Good luck.

Matt
