If you are talking about the 230 engine, the big sprocket will only go one way on the camshaft. I imagine it's probably the same on the other flathead engines, too.

The three bolt holes that hold the sprocket onto the camshaft hub are evenly spaced, so that all three holes will only line up when the sprocket is correctly located on the hub.

Beyond that, when you put it back together, all you have to do is make sure that the little "dot" on the big sprocket is lined up with the little "dot" on the small sprocket that is on the crankshaft. This part is in the manual.
