Ed, I think for the long-haul investment potential of the truck, if the overall condition is above average, that keeping it stock will pay off. However, it's your decision and how you intend to drive the truck will determine your choice. If roadability in a mid-to-high traffic area is number one priority, then a rebuild upgrade will probably suit you best. If offroad, backroad, or private property use is required, then the original powerplant allows that truck to do what it has been doing best for 35 years! It will cost as much for a thorough rebuild of a flathead 6 you already own as it will to obtain and build a nice 318. Good Luck, Where in CO are you located? Bruce in Woodland Park
