Dot 3 or dot 5 fluid?

I'm finishing up the break system on my 1/2 tonWC and was going to use dot 5 silicone fluid in it. I was talking to steve at VPW the other day and he said the components aren't designed for dot 5, only dot 3. I've had great luck in the past with other vehicles using silicone. I really hate how regular fluid absorbes water.I've got a friend that has a 50's Army wrecker with silicone fluid in it and the brakes are as good today as the day they built it. What do you guys think?
