Transfer case woes

My t case makes a real funnygringing noise whenever I slow down and then tends lock. It is a gear driven case, I think it a dana 20 or 18. Twin stick case one for 2 & 4 wheel drive the other for high low neutral I think. I'm going to take it apart this weekend to see if I can find out whats wrong. does any one have a schematic of the case or know what I should be looking for. Any help is greatly appreciated.
