if everything is working properly, the liquids are draining out the lateral lines, and the solids are consumed by bacteria (bacteria are called democratic voters 'cause they'll eat anything). Now I know that is a big IF. If you're pumping every few years, you likely have some remodling to do. Its possible that your system is fine and you need to supply some democrats; I guess some harsh laundry soaps or chemicals can eliminate bacteria. This isn't real likely, but let's eliminate the easy problems first. Its likely the tank is ok, but you may verify with a flashlight after pumping. Likely your lateral lines can be nonfuncting.
