I am sure this is an incredible extreme, but my 500 gallon (small by today's standards) tank was last pumped in 1980, and was just pumped two days ago.

I was not having any problems, I just wanted to avoid any problems, and, as you can see, it was a dang long time since it was pumped.

That I had not had it pumped for so long was because of a wise old neighbor who told me if you treat'em right you won't ever have to pump (bad advice, I think... but I followed it).

I have lived alone since 1986 (too many odd hobbies like Power Wagons), and I have been extremely careful with the septic tank.

OK, the results. It had a lot of sludge, but, the sludge was about 8 inches below the outlet, which means I still had a good margin of safety.

I am going to put a riser on it so I don't have to dig for it, and probably pump it every three years from now on.

This is a remarkable topic for this forum. How about a septic tank rally, Dave? Or a business called, Vintage Septic Tanks? I hate to ask what the field events would be.
