shallow fording an old M37

Any advice on what's the most important things to check when fording an old M37 in a foot or so of water? I know the right thing is to replace all the axle and gearbox seals first but I know I won't do that, so what is really most likely to cause problems? I'm building on the "other" side of my creek and am thinking the M37 would be handy for hauling stuff back and forth. Creek is about 100' across and the bottom is 1' to 2' dia rocks and no mud. The truck is pretty much stock except for a funky PTO arrangement. The important parts work fine but I'm sure the seals have never been replaced. I did rebuild all the brake cylinders a couple years ago.
