Neat rigs. I don't own one, would love to have one, and have driven a few off road and on the highway. Lots of web sites devoted to them, you can find them for sale on ebay and the various web sites. I think a decent one could be bought for around 5K-6K (that'd be the older 404 military versions). Yep, some parts such as drive train stuff are going to be expensive, but other stuff, is reasonable. If you don't know, they have front and rear locking diffs, lots of ground clearance, thanks to portal axles, and an extremely low crawl ratio. Not too many stock rigs can compete with them off road. Top highway speed is around 50 mph. There's a lot of info on them out there, good luck!
