I could have bought a 2002 truck just like my 97 for $33,800.
That is 3500, diesel, 5 speed(or 6 speed, my choice), SLT, club cab, fog lights, high end CD, TAPE, with extra speakers, Power Seat, and the flip down outside mirrors.
These were 2002 models.
The funny thing was the 2001, 2000 models with 30,000-60,000 miles on them were getting $31,000-$35,000 on the lots.
If I had had the extra cash, I would have bought brand new, and sold the truck for what I paid for it 30-40,000 miles later!
But I was only carrying $23,000 in cash to buy my truck, so I bought my 97 with 140,000 on it for $13,000.
I wish I could have bought new!!!
If the dealers in your area wont go below $35,000, I would call the big guys in OK, and see if they will still deal.
They were selling at cost back in April, as Dodge was giving a $700 kickback.
Good luck! And don't forget, if you buy a new truck, and tow with it all the time, dump it before 100,000, you will loose a injection pump if the 24V motors hold true to form, and you might put in two before 150,000, at $1,200 a pop, not something you want to get into much.
