Hair in oil pan

I took the oil pan off a blown 218 the other day and found the pan with clumps of hair-like stuff all around and clogging the oil intake screen. Its no wonder it blew up with no oil getting by. Anyone got any Ideas where it came from, Probably from the filter I assume, maybe someone put the wrong kind of filter in the canaster? strange.
