I've heard of cases where the low-quality mechanic would simply push in new freeze plugs over the old ones without removing the old ones in an effort to save time. When this happens, the old plugs are pushed into the coolant jacket, reducing flow, restricting cooling ability, and making it much more likely that the new plugs will push out. If you replaced the plug yourself, you probably would have seen the old plug in there if this were the case. Just something to watch out for, though I've never heard about it done specifically on these old flathead Dodges.
