Unless I've misunderstood your post, all NP 420's are syncro'ed (3rd & 4th gear ). If your trying to find out if the tranny you have is a NP 420 then the easiest way I know is to look at the boltup flanges that connect the tranny to the bell housing. On early non syncro'ed ( Spurgear ) NP's the holes on one side of the tranny were closer together then the holes on the other side ( angled ). Civilian NP 420's had the holes evenly spaced on both sides ( parallel ). 1957 and later FF's came with np420's.
