w 300 transmission question

What tranny was used on a 1964 w-300 with a 318? Would this be a good tranny to use for a v8 conversion in a flat fender? I can get a good deal on one (w-300 power wagon) that runs good. It would be nice to drop the engine/tranny in my flat fender. John
