You are right Brian, that is a concern. I use a feeler gauge between the rim and drum, and if it touches I grind the edge of the rim a bit. Since I'm running duals, it's not a big safety issue if the inner rim subsequently fails. Also, I am running 7.50-16's, if you want to run 9.00's then you'd want the searchlight trailer rims with the wide offset.
