It doesn't sound like you got your engine THAT hot. If you have already replaced the frost plug, I would drive it, watching the temp. carefully and checking the oil often to see if any antifreeze has found its way into the crankcase.
If the mechanic only did the machine work, there is no way he will waranttee your engine if there is a problem, even if he did install the frost plugs. He will claim that something you did caused the problem. Period. I don't know any mechanics who would waranttee an engine they didn't put together (even the good ones).
