Well, heck, I guess I should take the truck back to the guy to have him replace the freeze plugs, but I already had it towed back to the house by a buddy of mine.

Some of you guys suggested that I have him check the engine for damage, but I don't know what kind of checks those would be. He can only check so many things, like compression, check for anti-freeze in the oil/oil in the radiator, bubbles in the radiator (indicating a crack in the block or head or a leaky head gasket). I can do all of that myself, and there's no sense in making him replace the freeze plug, since I would have to tow the truck to his shop from my house. I can replace the freeze plug myself, too. I guess I could take the truck to a shop and have them perform a cylinder leak-down test.

If I find that there is any damage, either now or later, then you better believe I will be going after him.

After the engine cooled off, I started it briefly, in order to get it into the driveway, and it ran fine, so at least that's a good sign.

Are there any other checks that can be made, either by me or by a mechanic? If so, I'll make him pay for those.

Also, can extreme heat damage or compromise my head gasket?

Has anyone here had any problems with cracked blocks or heads?

Any further advice is appreciated.

Thanks again to everyone,

Matt
