off subject (Scanner help)

I bought a barley used but, it is used scanner. I have read and understand the installation instructions. Everything is connected properly. When I try to scan a picture it throws up an error that has to do with a file named KERNEL.32.DLL.....
A while back I remember deleting this kernel.32.dll with a virus. Since then I have used my full set of recovery CD's and all is good but the scanner...
