Mark, I tried rerouting the wires as you suggested. Amp meter reads 0. When I re-wired the truck, I used a wiring diagram for a 61. One of the wires coming off of the regulator goes to the ballast resistor. I rerouted this wire to the "grn" side of the alt. and the result was 0 amps. I'm wondering if the old style system should be reinstalled. The other idea is to get a battery cut-off switch and mount it under the dash. Just turn it off while driving.
