If you use a plastic or epoxy filler, make sure that you first prime the bare metal with an epoxy primer. This seals the metal and stops rust from creaping underneath the filler. I seal with PPG DP products such as DP 40. Once you get the body work done. make sure to put another coat of DP over the entire repair.
