I have been trying to fix the charging system on my 58 W100, and so far I am not having much luck.

I had two generators, and didn't know how to test them, people on the forum told me to hook up the connections on the generator to a battery, as the generator is also a motor.

I then found a book on old British car repair that told me the same thing, but neither source has told me which terminal gets the positve wire, the small terminal, or the large terminal?

I know it should rotate both ways, but the generator wears one way and might not like going the other.

Also, how do you "polerize" the generator? I have heard, "run a jumper wire to the generator from the positive side of the battery"(where on the generator not specified), and "touch a wire to both terminals on the generator at the same time while the engine is running"(wihtout specifying if I should remove the wires to the voltage regulator first).

I now have a third generator(off a 60 D500 I stripped today), I am hoping one of the three I have will work!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Eric
