Hi Jason,
The '64 318 should be the same Poly engine as the one you have, unless a prior owner swapped it out. All 318A engines were Poly's until Chrysler changed to the 318LA wedge in 1967. If you look at the lower edge of the valve covers you will see a "scolloped" lower edge. The wedge valve cover edges are 'normal' or straight. That is the first visible clue. Also the exhuast ports are equally spaced apart. Yes, the freeze plugs are the same.
On the lower passenger side of the block is the 'born on' date. There will be a casting clock with the hour, day and date. Sometimes you have to steam or pressure wash to find it because you are talking about 40 years of oil and dirt. The engine ID will be on a machined spot just below the heads on the front of the block.
Lastly, no insult taken, sorry if my response came across that way, I'm touchy about these unrespected Mopar engines, I feel that they are equal or better than just about anything Ma Mopar ever came up with. Because they were built at the begining of the "Muscle Car Era" they were quickly forgotten as 383's, 440's and 426 Hemi's came down the line in rapid succession. Then the 340's and 360's came, all available with tons of aftermarket parts. However if you have patience and are resourceful in tracking down old speed equipment you can make these Poly's run like heck! Go to the Polyspherical Web site and read! Good Luck!
