I don't think hydraulic motors are 100% efficient, maybe 65-75%. The up-side is they are quiet, and the PTO pump can be designed for low PW engine (idle to 1000) RPM & still maintain your HP required at the gen (what is the HP required for your generator anyways?). My 6kva military genset uses a 10HP Hercules 2 cylinder gas engine so I imagine your's requires a heck of alot more HP. Maybe you are looking at direct coupling a 230 ci Flathead 6 to the generator on the trailer (forget about the PTO). You can pick up the necessary engine couplings and bellhousings from yards that have ex-utility equipment in them (gas/electric/sewer).
