How about you strip the generator down to it's minimum requirements, and mount it under the bed, inside of frame? or maybe cut hole in floor of bed, so as to lower it ?
Also, try to flip pto over so as to raise out put shaft- maybe you'll have to dissassemble it or move it to other side of tranny?
And if you use car axles for my other proposition, hook pinion-to-pinion, first axle will increase speed, second will lower it back to achieve a 1-to-one overall ratio.
