It needs to run 1800 RPM. I figured the engine should be able to put out just about 100 HP at that RPM, running everything straight through. I think that's way fast for a chain drive. I know they use the chain for driving a rear winch but in that case you have to put the tranny in low. I know 100 HP belt drives can be made, but those sheaves and belts are expensive, plus the side-loading on the bearings can be a problem. Since I already have a parts truck I can take drivelines off of, I'm trying to go that route instead.

I don't know what gen I have. It is meant to bolt up directly to the flywheel of some engine the I don't have, so I am going to have to fabricate a bearing and mount for that end of it anyway. It's a modern brushless design, a military special made by Marathon Electric. I don't have a wiring diagram and I'll have to build a regulator. It's supposed to put out 60 kW 3-phase at 120 V, and 80% PF, but it appears to have one set of windings brought out as a Y and the other 3 brought out individually, so I'm thinking it can be wired for 240 V also. It appears to be unused, but there was a tag on it that said "burned windings" (which is odd because it doesn't smell and all the varnish looks pristine), so before I get too far along with it, I am fabricating a temporary bearing mount and pulley shaft so I can spin it up with a small electric motor and make sure it works.
