Ok, the tranny died in my old 77 d-150 over a year ago. Now i have some time on my hands and want to get the truck going again. My orignal thought was to pick up a used tranny at the pick and pull for $65. Out the door it woudl be about $120 with core and what not. I dont think it is too bad. But what i have heard, it isnt worth it to buy a used transmission, because they are soo cheap to rebuild, and also, they like to get water in them. i really would perfer a used one, just pull the whole tranny, and torque converter setup. What do you think? also, what are good ways to tell if the tranny is good or not? I was just gonna pull the pan and look for water, and metal shavings in whats left of the fluid. also, anyone have any good ideas on how to remove it at the wreckers, on my own, on uneven dirt ground (aka: no tranny jack).

thanks for the help. Garrett
