The 47RE trans had problems and has been replaced by a totally new transmission, the 48RE. It is a Dodge trans, there had been some talk about using an Allison or Mercedes tranny but this new trans is supposed to do the trick. Some debate as to whether the failures were caused by running in overdrive while hauling loads. The H.O. Cummins is initially only offered with a 5 or 6 speed manual, that is not an option in SoCal, to darn much stop and go, the manual trans clutch parts wear too fast, so I'm going with the Turbo Cummins standard output and automatic. ( the H.O. is detuned in CA anyway, to a mere 300 HP.) Besides, who wants to ride in a hard shifting, rough riding, noisey.....uh never mind,..ha! ha!
