Judging by the photo I would say that it's a cargo truck from the M44 series of trucks that were built for the military first by Kaiser Jeep Corporation, then later on by AM General. Truck, Cargo, 2 1/2 ton, M35 either an A1 or A2 would be a more accurate nomenclature. It looks like there is a short lenght of chain hanging down in the center of the bumper, so I would say that it appears to be a W/Winch model. On early models the front wheel drive was engaged by a sprag unit while later models had an air operated mechanism on the transfer. Also early models had a naturally aspired engine. Later on these engines were replaced with turbo charged engines. Way to tell this is the size of the exhaust pipe, the naturally aspired engines used a small diameter exhaust pipe while the turbo ones have a larger exhaust pipe. If the data plate lists Kaiser Jeep Corp. as the manufacturer, then it was made sometime in the mid to late 60's. If it lists AM General as the manufacturer, then it's from sometime in the 70's. To find out for sure what year it was made, you would need the registration and or USA number from the truck. To learn more about the origins of AM General and see alot of pictures of humvee's, go to www.amgmil.com/humvee. Robert
