Oscar, no problem if you have manual hubs, I used to do it on my W300 often going up steep paved hills to get more gear options. Just shift to 4x low and leave the hubs free. If no hubs, you can de-adjust the NP200 and NP201 tranfer shift links to allow the forward lever to reach low range without touching the front axel clutch/de-clutch (rear) lever. You might have a problem with the levers hitting the cab floor if you do this, as the slot may not be long enough. If you have a '58 W series truck, they have only one lever, and the de-adjust may be harder to do. I don't know how the NP205's were levered. On the 200 and 201 there is no internal interlock, only the lever interaction to force low range to be 4x4. You need to be aware that by doing this you have doubled the torque available to the rear axel, (usually its divided between front and rear, sort of) so be real gentle on the throttle in the low gears or you may break an axel shaft.
