Full floater rear end vs semi floater rear end

OK, I have my dunce cap firmly in place.
Can someone offer a simple, lucid explanation concerning the difference between the full and the semi floater rear end and how to tell which one I have. I think I have a full floater, but I really don't know what it means or why it is desirable.
