My carryall came with a Chevy 327 and the SM 420 transmission and PTO. When I rebuilt the truck I kept the engine and transmission. The engine fits very well and I have lots of room. It is close to the steering box however. I even put hanging peddles with a small brake booster and master cylinder with out any issues (you need short valve covers). The PTO winch works great. I have a 50's Chev truck bell housing that has a saddle mount under neath it. IE the transmission has 2 rubber pads on the bottom that have bolts running through them (up from the saddle mount). The Saddle mount would block the PTO shaft except that it was modified to allow the shaft to pass by it.

I did have a minor cooling problem when I first put it back on the road, but I have never had a problem since. It has more than enough power on the road and trail. It does really well on the trail and can creep along with out overheating.

If I were to do a V8 conversion I would use Helitools kit. All the engineering has been done and it is a proven kit. I really like Rays work. It is first class which is what you would expect from a guy who makes helicopter parts.
