Starter Motor grinds,binds,drags

Hello my 86 318 had the ring gear and complete new starter motor changed last week because it ate up my ring gear

Now it still sounds like its sort of grinding and binding when cranking the motor over.
Also it seems to take 3 or 4 seconds to disengage after i let go of the
key.
Any ideas would be appreciated
