PTO Questions

I think I read that PTo's from syncro and non syncro gearboxes( from the flat fender trucks) do not inerchange is this correct?
If so does anyone know if the pto from a syncro box fits on to a 1980's gm four speed?
A friend is dropping a gm four speed and a 350 in his 1960 PW and I am getting the syncro box to replace the buggered up non syncro box in the Swivel. If the pto from the syncro box fits the gm case I need to find a replacement. I thought a explanation was in order.
