I do not believe David was criticizing anyone's mastery of American English.
Rather, I suspect he was pleading for clarity and effective communication. Just as one should not deride others for what is euphemistically called "non-standard English", neither should one bear umbrage towards those frustrated in their attempts to understand others and pleading that they make the effort to write in a way more akin to what Mrs. Johnson tried to teach us in the 8th grade.

If you want help, you must make yourself understood. You can't go into NAPA and ask them to get you a part number for "that little thingumubob that clamps onto the widget just after it comes outta the whatchamacallit."
