My wife, her sister and I were at a rail crossing in rural Lousiana years ago. The car in front of us stopped for the flashing lights. Very shortly a train starts coming by at about 15mph and we hear a thump thump thump ... We look to the right and see that one car's wheels were running on the ties and not the rails. As the car comes to the crossing the wheel hits the edge of the road and over goes the car coming towards us. It started taking several other cars with it. All I remember was two people poping out of the car in front of us and running like all get out just before the car was buried in corn. Next thing I knew I was 50 yards down the road with my wife standing there watching more and more cars roll over. Then I see her sister get out of the car and run. My dear wife had shut the door after she had bailed out leaving her sister in the back seat of a two door car. When it was all said and done. The car in front of us was buried in corn and we had just a little against ours. The guy in front of us worked for the railroad but his girl friend was driving and had stopped too close to the tracks as far as he was concerned. He said he never comes close to the tracks at a road crossing because that is where most trains come off the tracks. Ever since that day I stay 50+ feet back from the tracks when waiting for a train to go by. I have had numerous people go around me to get closer but for some reason that does not bother me as I still very clearly remember that train going over right in front of me 25 years ago.

Trains and cars do not mix. The car will always loose.
