I just tried four different bellhousing that fit the 230. One also ft both the L.A. and A 318 engines also. The other three did not. You have less than a 25% chance of having the right one as MOST I have seen in the flattie powered trucks do not fit the V-8's also. DonE is correct about the raised waterpump/timing chain cover and front saddle engine mount for the 318 "A" engines. That same mount and timing chain cover/waterpump mount also fits the later 273/318/340/360 L.A. engine too and allows you to use your existing crossmember for your front mount and centers your fan in the shroud in the same location as the 6 had it.
