Hi fellas,
From my limited experience, you don't really need to worry about the bolt pattern on the NP540's. I think they all have the same bolt pattern.(someone correct me if I'm wrong) The main difference between brand names, ie. ch**y, F**D, and Dodge, is the length and diameter of the input shaft. A couple of weeks ago I installed a NP540OD out of a Studebaker w/ a 312 F*rd engine into my W300. I had to get a little creative as the input shaft on my 540 was .5" shorter than my 420. It also had a 1.125" dia. input shaft where as my 420 had a 1.5"(I think) input shaft. But the bolt pattern lined right up. Actually, if you can find a parts source to convert the 540's to OD, you won't have to worry about the length of the input shaft as it will be part of the replacement parts.
Hope this helps.
Jeff
