My 251 only runs on fossil fuel. I recommend internal combustion, accept no substitutes.
If by chance you meant, to lube our engines with synthetic oil instead of power it with synthetic oil, I will say you must have very good sealing or else you tend to have leaking due to crankcase pressure. Petroleum based oils seem to work better with the cork and rope type gaskets.
I changed to synthetic oil at 60,000mi.in my 1990 Mazda B2200 PU (bought new), it was the worst thing I could have done as it then began to leak oil so I drained and replaced it back to the 30W I'd been using all along. I never had another problem again.
I think any engine using synthetic oil should have superior seals which most older engines do not.
