WWII or M-43 I think it is always best to keep original systems, Parts are available and mostly inexspensive. The truck was designed around these systems and they worked well for Uncle Sam, Why mess with success?
On freeing up old Engine I freed up a M-38 engine that had sat at least 25 years by filling with Marvel Mystery Oil, and letting it stew for 1 month. When I went back to her she turned right over.
