Front Springs & Shocks ???

I got the C1 and the C4 side by side for comparison, and there are a few differences that have me wondering. What are the frame mounts for the front shocks supposed to look like in 56? (The C1 uses a big cast bracket, but my C4 has what looks to be a fabricated/welded steel affair that leans the shock ahead more.) The C4 has the lower GVW, (and hopefully, the 4.89 gears) so I would expect the springs to be a little different, BUT, it has 2 leaves on TOP of the mainleaf. They both have the spring allignment clamps attached to them, but would seem to have no other use. They look the same as the leaves that clamp the springs on the C1, but the clamps are on in reverse.(upside down from normal) but the arch is the right way. Is this original?? The truck came with a winch, so could these leaves be some sort of "overload" leaf for the front end? My parts book stops at C3, so these things have me guessing. ( I am reminded that "The man with a watch knows what time it is, but the man with two watches is never sure") Many Thanks J.V.L.
