Peter,

You must be the Peter Hewko from Eagle River...If so I am John Calhoun, married to Jody (ex) Kindred. I think I've been corresponding with your dad re an np435 trans.

I have a '52 m-37 and run it off road. My dad also runs an ambulance. We've both had similar problems. This year I took off the fuel tank, opened the top at the pick-up tube,a nd tried to clean it out...you can't get behind the side baffles tho...I got the rust flakes out with a vacuum. I installed a new filter on the pick-up tube, an electric fuel pump at the crossmember ahead of the tank, and a filter under the hood. I also blew out and inspected the steel fuel lines.

I really thought I had it fixed, but still had some problems. Next step will be take out the tank again and agitate some glass beads or steel shot. Clean it out with a vacuum and blowgun, and then slosh some rust stabilizer and
then some fuel tank sloshing compound in it. After that I'll install two inline filters ahead of the electric pump. When the first plugs off, pull it and run on the next.

I went to school in Fairbanks for three years..so I know what your up against with impending weather. I have had broken down cars at -40 and nowhere to work on them. For general rescources, you might try to find Teal Heller, she may know someplace warm for you to work.

Good luck, Peter, and let me know how it goes...I also have access to alot of m-37 parts.

John Calhoun
