Pete,

One place you might look is in the fuel tank. The suction tube is terminated with a filter, held on with a nut. If it comes off, a problem very similar to yours can happen; In fact, it happened to me. To repair it, remove the access cover in the bed, the suction unit screws (a bunch), and look it over. If missing, at least it is still in there, but finding it may be a chore. I'd replace the plain nut/lockwasher combo with a good all-metal locknut (10-32 thread, I think). Otherwise, I'd look to see if the fuel bowl on the carb is full when the problem happens, by pulling the little pipe plug on the side of the carb. If a half cup of gas comes out, either the carb mainjet is plugged, or it is an electrical problem. Usually an electrical (ignition) problem is accompanied by a lot of backfiring. If just a trickle of gas is present, you will have to see where the blockage is. It could, of course, be the fuel pump, and you can tell by moving the priming lever with that plug out of the carb to see if gas flows. Good luck, DG
